Forget Planning and Goal Setting - Do This Instead

This time of year is often a time of planning and thinking about new years resolutions. But, as much as planning and goal setting are tools to help you succeed, where most people fail is that they don't put action into those plans and goals. That is why, even though you have good intentions at the beginning of the year, by February 1st, you're right back into your old habits, and nothing changes.

This year, try something different; do it backwards! Start with action.

Choose one thing that you're going to do the moment you finish reading this blog post. Pick something small that simply moves you in the direction of a goal. It could be to put away the clean laundry that is still sitting in a basket, go for a walk around the block, drink a glass of water or read 5 pages of a book.

Just start.

If you spend an inordinate amount of time putting together your calendar and plans and setting goals, but you don't follow through, it ends up being little more than a big waste of your time.

Remember, sometimes you can't know what the plan is until you start. So, make this year a year of action for yourself. Small actions done consistently can take you anywhere you want to go, and will often build your beloved plan for you.
